The refurbishment of this late Victorian cottage consisted of repairing and refinishing the existing front section while slotting in a two storey glass volume at the rear. The design by Sam Crawford Architects required a detailed extensive sandstone excavation while suspending the top floor above it. The glass extension contains the new main living areas while boasting beautiful city views. The finished result of specified raw black steel and bare concrete together with thoroughly selected timber floorings and finely detailed joinery proved very satisfying for both client and architect.
