The existing terrace house on busy Mullens Street originally boasted extensions to the side and the rear. Demolishing the annexes created the opportunity to enlarge the living area and add an additional bedroom and ensuite to the original terrace house. This allowed for an ambitious new second dwelling on the corner. The terrace received a contemporary make-over while highlighting its original features. The new residence required an integrated approach leaving room for experimentation with raw honest materials and textures. Handmade bricks, hardwood, exposed steel, painted masonry and polished concrete are only a few of the elements that make up its final look. The new dwelling, Balmain House boasts four bedrooms and two bathrooms with a lap pool in the back yard, the design produced a most spacious home in a central Balmain location.
